With hotels continually trying to out build each other, The Imperial Palace continued with a major expansion that included a nightclub, health and fitness center, office complex, and swimming pool that featured a two story waterfall and poolside bar. One year later, the Imperial Theatre showroom opened followed by three more hotel towers that were built throughout the 1980’s allowing for a grand total of 2,637 hotel rooms. With renovations, the hotel had 650 rooms and reopened as the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino in 1979. At various times it went by other names before finally being bought by the Best Western hotel chain. Sitting on land that once occupied the 180-room Flamingo Capri motel (located north of the original Flamingo Hotel), which was built in 1959.
